Statistics Reports

Following the computerisation, in 1986, of the Ministry 's Education Management Information Systems, the EMIS section, in collaboration with other sections of the ministry has compiled and produced several statistical reports and bulletins. The data used in these reports is largely derived from the annual schools census, conducted by the section, complemented with data from secondary sources such as the Central Statistical Office.

The EMIS section produces mainly two types of reports:

· Statistics Bulletins, i.e., compilations of data on schools, enrolments, teachers, and learning & teaching resources. These are annual publications which can be availed to users on request.

The table below depicts the evolution of the education system since 1980.

· Analysis Reports
, i.e., policy-anchored reports that analyse the development and performance of the education system regarding set policy goals and objectives. Most importantly is the analysis of the education system's endeavours towards the attainment of Education for All(EFA) goals. In 1990 the government fully endorsed the principles of the Jomtien World Conference on Education for All (EFA) of 1990. The EFA goals guide the Government's policy concerns and programmes in the education sector. Analysis reports are largely produced at the middle and end of decade.

Below is a brief outline of some of the most recent reports published by the EMIS section.

1. Education for All Assessment Report of 2000: This is an analytical report of the basic education system's performance regarding the EFA goals as stipulated in the Jomtien World Conference on Education of 1990. The report assesses developments in Early Childhood Education & Care and primary education since 1990.

2. Education Millennium Report of 2001: This is an analytical report of the developments in both the primary and secondary education system of the country.

3. The difference between primary school attendance and enrolment: why children are not in school: This is a collaborative report involving two ministries and the Central Statistical Office. The report is largely based on secondary data sources to assess and determine the barriers to participation in primary education in the last decade, i.e., from 1990 to 2000.
